I put together a little Rails app that takes a Web site — something like the NYT home page — and looks up the first 150 or so URLs that it finds on the page using the Topsy Otter API, then displays how often they have been tweeted as an overlay on the page itself.
This course will introduce students to the fundamental concepts of data visualization, and provide a structured environment for experimentation with a variety of methods in both digital and physical media. Over the course of four weeks, students will study the iterative process of visualization design as a means to adaptively organize, understand, and communicate quantitative information.
